Reg raced at Bathurst in Australia, 1979. This is the Vetter KZ1000 faired for the Australian GP race. During the Superbike race the day before, Reg blew a tire in a long, fast (he got the Kawasaki to 174 mph-unfaired!) downhill and never made the turn at the bottom. The front tire blew about the time he was downshifting to 3rd, slowing for the turn, and he reckons he was going about 120 when he got off. He tumbled for about 2 days (okay, a day and a half) and incredibly wasn't hurt! He tells a story of how the Australian fans cheered him heartily when he got up, and offered him a beer, mate! "I never met an Aussie I didn't like" says Reg. |
