Raceway, 1976. This was a favorite racetrack for Reg at
the time and he did very well there. "We got it handling
pretty well", says Reg when asked what the '76 R90S was
like to ride. That was a 160 (he thinks) slick on the
rear - which in those days was a monster tire, but by
today's standards it was pretty skinny. It must
have handled well to be able to beat the big horsepower
Japanese flexi flyers in that class during the day. Check out the leg - somebody could have made
a fortune by inventing knee pucks! As he studies
this picture, Reg remembers going into turn 7. A fast
entry where he made a lot of time and did a lot of
passing. This was the last race of the season and
the win that day won Reg the first AMA Superbike
Championship. |
